Press Release – Celebrating Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month: Free events, resources, and expert speakers
June 5, 2025
This June, Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington (ALTCEW) invites the community to join us for Brain Health Week, a weeklong series of free events in honor of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. From June 23 – 27, we’re hosting engaging in-person and virtual programs to empower individuals and families with knowledge, resources, and supports related to brain health, Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
“Worldwide, more than 55 million people are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, and two-thirds of Americans have at least one major potential risk factor,” says the Alzheimer’s Association. It’s never too early – or too late – to take action.
Brain Health Week Highlights:
- Monday, June 23 — Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Program Panel (Hybrid). Discover how Medicare’s new GUIDE model is transforming dementia care with support for unpaid caregivers, care navigation, 24/7 helplines, and more. GUIDE providers will explain what the program is and the services that they will offer in our community. Afternoon session: What to expect after a diagnosis and what you can do to live the life you want.
- Tuesday, June 24 — Free memory screenings! Take the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. While this won’t give you a diagnosis, it will give you results that you can take to your doctor to encourage further testing.
- Wednesday, June 25 — Types of Dementia Presentation with experts from The Alzheimer’s Association, The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, Dementia Society of America, Lilac City Neuropsychology and The Parkinson’s Foundation (Hybrid). Afternoon activity: Join us for a Brain Health Carnival that will include food, games, activities, and more!
- Thursday, June 26 — Become a Dementia Friend Champion! Learn how to lead dementia information sessions and connect with a group of leaders working to develop a dementia-friendly community. Evening session: Attend our Caregiver Workshop for an in-depth exploration of topics related to memory loss.
- Friday, June 27 — Dementia Friends marathon! We will hold pop-up Dementia Friends information sessions from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM. A Dementia Friend is someone who learns about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action. Keep an eye on our calendar for locations and times.
Join us! All events are free and open to the public. Whether you’re a caregiver, professional, or simply want to support brain health, there’s something for you. No matter how you choose to join us, we hope that you come to learn more about brain health and dementia!
