Aging & Long Term Care History
Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington (ALTCEW) was established as a regional public corporation in 1978 under the provisions of the Older Americans Act. From that date through 1994, the Agency was known as the Eastern Washington Area Agency on Aging (EWAAA). The name change in 1994, to Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington, signified a recognition of our services, clientele, and the Agency’s mission.
ALTCEW’s service region includes the City of Spokane, City of Spokane Valley, and the five counties of Spokane, Ferry (Except for the Colville Indian Reservation) Stevens, Pend Oreille and Whitman. The Agency and its programs are funded through a partnership of federal, state and local governments. Federal money is allocated from the Administration on Community Living and, along with state funds, is passed through to ALTCEW through the Aging and Long Term Services Administration of the Department of Social and Health Services. ALTCEW actively participates in the Washington Association of Area Agencies on Aging (W4A).
