Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors

Join our Team!

You can make a difference in the lives of others by helping them navigate Medicare. Join the Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) today, your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).

You don’t have to know Medicare – we’ll train and mentor you! Not only does volunteering offer vital help to people in need and in your community, but the benefits can be even greater for you serving as a volunteer. If interested in learning more about SHIBA, visit our Medicare Page.

Volunteering can:

  • Keep you mentally stimulated and provide a sense of purpose
  • Help with your overall physical health, which prolongs your life

  • Bring fun and fulfillment to your life
We offer volunteer positions for all types of interests:
  • Counsel others in person or over the phone
  • Take on outreach in the community
  • Become a public speaker
  • Participate in special projects
  • Use your administrative skills for data entry or other clerical support

Who can Volunteer

If you’re retired or getting ready to retire and looking for new ways to stay active, becoming a SHIBA volunteer could be for you! Or if you’re in between jobs, looking to start a new career, or are already employed and looking to gain valuable knowledge to enhance your resume and show employers you’re proactive, come volunteer with SHIBA! If you speak another language in addition to English – that’s a bonus!

Note: We can’t take anyone who has any interest in an insurance company, other than as a policyholder.

Volunteer Testimonial

“My volunteer work keeps my brain active and engaged and I love being able to give back to the community… I began volunteering during the pandemic and for a couple years, it was my primary source of interaction with the outside world. I so appreciate being able to share Medicare information with fellow volunteers and our clients! People who want to help others and give back to the community while staying engaged in what matters will find SHIBA very beneficial. We’re always learning and growing our skills!” – Kathe, SHIBA volunteer, 2 years
