Important announcement – Transition of services in Whitman County
December 8, 2025
Dear Community Members,
Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington (ALTCEW), Whitman County’s designated Area Agency on Aging, is issuing this urgent announcement regarding transitions in critical Aging & Disability services within Whitman County.
First, we extend our sincere gratitude to the current and former staff of the Council on Aging (COA). Their longstanding dedication and service have deeply supported older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers throughout our community. ALTCEW remains fully committed to rebuilding service continuity, strengthening local partnerships, and ensuring that Whitman County residents receive the high-quality support they need and deserve.
Over the coming weeks, several services currently provided by COA will transition to new agencies. These changes affect Whitman County only and are designed to reinforce stability, improve service access, and minimize disruption for community members.
MedStar will assume responsibility for senior transportation services, including medical and essential travel.

- Medicaid In-home Case Management
- Family Caregiver Support Program
- Medicaid Transformation Project-Medicaid Alternative Care (MAC) and Tailored Supports for Older Adults (TSOA) programs
ALTCEW is actively working to identify and transition Senior Nutrition Services, home delivered meals and congregate meal sites to a new provider. We will share updates as this process progresses, in the meantime, call our helpline at (509) 960-7281 for nutrition information.
The community support we have received during this period has been tremendous, and we truly appreciate every partner and organization working alongside us. We will continue navigating this transition together.
