Become a Dementia Friend
Dementia Friends USA is part of a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Anyone can be a Dementia Friend – we all have a part to play in creating dementia friendly communities!

Become a Dementia Friend Today
A Dementia Friend is someone who, through viewing a series of online videos or attending a live interactive session, learns about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends program to visiting someone who is living with dementia, every action counts!
You can become a Dementia Friend by joining us for a one hour information session and committing to take action. Do you have a book group, neighborhood or church group that would like to participate together in an information session? We are happy to work with you.
Make a difference in our community by becoming a Dementia Friends Champion
A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who teaches community groups about dementia by delivering Dementia Friends information sessions to community members. To become a champion:
- Attend one 3-hour Dementia Friends Champion training.
- Lead an hour-long Dementia Friends information session once per month. These will either be with groups that the Champion works with directly or at events scheduled by the Regional Coordinators.
By becoming a Champion, you can:
- Connect with a group of leaders in our region that is working to develop an age- and dementia-friendly community
- Interact with other like-minded individuals
- Increase your knowledge of dementia and ability to interact with people living with cognitive changes
- Enhance public speaking skills
- Maintain your wellbeing

Volunteer Testimonial
“I enjoy being a Dementia Friends volunteer because I know I am helping an often-overlooked population in our Spokane community. When giving Dementia Friends presentations, I get to see participants have an ‘Aha!’ moment when they learn something new or when they realize they are not alone in what they are experiencing as a person with dementia or as a caregiver. Spokane Dementia Friends is a welcoming group to be a part of as we work together to spread this important information that increases the quality of life for those with dementia and their care partners.” – Brad, Dementia Friends Champion
